This recording is pretty much as advertised. It’s one of those rock-heavy 1970 shows with the springy, freewheeling rush that could see them bursting into a Drums segment at any moment. Evidently, this was a pretty cool scene. Garcia on the reefer, band members mingling with attendees, Wavy Gravy calling the shots, a couple of other bands on the bill, all contributing to a good-natured hometown show benefiting a local tribe.
No acoustic set or half-hour jams, but still a perfectly solid '70 AUD tape. That sneering Easy Wind takes the cake!

Hello, Jonathan Aizen, Uli and Hanno. My name is Sky Scholfield I am making a documentary about my tribe the Pit River Tribe and I am so thankful you uploaded this audio! I wonder if you knew that this concert was held because of a request made by Wavy Gravy to free 30 Native Americans from Jail? Just over two weeks prior a whole 30 Pit-River Native Americans were arrested for occupying their own land and Wavy, who was at the arrests, called for help raising bail money. I'm hoping to include this story and (if I can get the rights) maybe some of this audio.
If anyone knows how to get some of the original audio, or better yet, knows someone who was there I would absolutely love to hear about it! You can reach me here or email pitriverdocumentary@gmail.com and/or see a trailer of the doc here www.pitriverdocumentary.com
Thank you all so much!
Best,
Sky

Very happy with this listen. This is now one of my favorite Easy Winds. Great jam before NFA, not all of which is here. But wherever you go, there you are.

Subject: To Dream the Impossible Dream
Is the show where the guy climbed on stage and sang the impossible dream? The band accompanied him for a while and when he kept going and going, they all moved to one side of the stage and the lights went down on the guy singing. When the lights came back, the guy was gone. And yes, Gracia was on the verandah with his buddies smoking a joint.

I'm trying to find out, if this show was opened by Sandy Bull, and The New Riders of the Purple Sage. someone was handing out lsd and doobies at the door. Wavy Gravy was the m.c. If it was, I was there, and sat and rapped with Jerry, outside, on the veranda. Please, help me here, as my memory is a little jaded, and dates are vague to me! Doctor R.O'C.

There is a little haze to the sound but that will happen after 35 years.
It must of been a BLAST to hear that version of Easy Wind.
Even further I'm guessing this is the version of St.Stephen I heard on KSHE 95's DEAD OF THE NIGHT, which was a program on every fri. or sat. back around 93'.

...with bigboypete on this one. This Ron Keyser dude is an obsessive compulsive freak who would probably run away screaming if he heard 11/8/70 or 6/24/70. If you want technical and sonic perfection, buddy, go listen to Boston or something.
Anyway this is a good AUD tape for the time. It's no 8/6/71 but you have to respect the taper for going into the Ballroom and capturing it, warts in all. It's got a great NFA as well as a great Good Lovin. Yeah there's cuts but who cares? It just adds to the charm of the show.

AUD C/3...What is this supposed to mean? Aud Cassette 3rd Gen??
Also... I see in the text it says it's the complete show. Not sure how that can be when it also says the Not Fade is cut and the Good Lovin is cut. Looks like something missing to me.
As for good quality for an AUD from that time... Maybe, maybe not. It sounds terrible. Pretty much a waste of time.

Very good quality for an audience tape of the time. There's alot of energy and you can feel it.
Also, THIS IS HISTORY, MAN. The Dead were only around for 5 years at that time. You owe it to yourself to give this show a shot. I give it 5 stars that this show even survived for us to hear
now. Thanks Jonathan and Archive!
